Mel Blanc often told the story of the creation of the character and its name. Development of Bugs Bunny. Road Runner on the other hand has proven to be a crafty individual, only ever running so fast as to avoid immediate danger.
However, he soon gets back hot on the trail. Bosko, depicted as a pilot in World War I, battles a thuggish pilot and is shot down by the enemy pilot's massive cannon. He lands in the wreck of a home, where he meets Honey. And then Foxy walks in and the customers go really wild. A streetcar conductor has adventures with a would-be passenger hippo, a cow blocking the tracks, and a runaway train while he, his passengers, and some hobos sing the title song.
Bosko, the captain of a ship, is shipwrecked on a desolate island, where he is awoken by the monkeys and birds inhabiting the island. Once gaining consciousness, he is pursued by a lion and wanders into a native village, which subsequently leads to him being cornered by the inhabitants of the village.
Cop Foxy is trying to enforce the law in town, but dangerous drivers and gangsters who also kidnap his sweetheart are making this difficult. Piggy picks up his girlfriend Fluffy and takes her to a theater, where a hot jazz orchestra is playing.
Bosko is a soda jerk, who gives poor service to a mouse and to his former schoolteacher. Later, he must contend with Honey's bratty kitten pupil.
Piggy and Fluffy have adventures on a riverboat. And Uncle Tom is chased by skeletons promising to take him to Hallelujah Land.
In a toy shop, a villainous spider threatens the happiness of a red-headed baby doll and her sweetheart, a toy soldier named Napoleon. Bosko and Honey go to the zoo. Honey is frightened by the lion, but Bosko is the one who ends up in danger. On a tropical island, a boy sings "Pagan Moon" to his sweetheart. Later, he plays music underwater with an octopus-pianist and other jazz-loving sea life.
Bosko is a brave little boxer who battles the champion, Gas House Harry. The enormous brute proves a bit much, even for a plucky underdog. Freddy comes to a party and is a hit; he then goes on to be the star quarterback at the football game. An American Indian boy and girl sing and dance in the forest along with the animals.
Trouble begins when a fire threatens baby birds in their nest. Goopy, a dog of no particular personality, but a crackerjack piano player, plays several songs on the stage of a nightclub.
We spend a fair amount of time watching the patrons and staff of the nightclub. Bosko and Bruno escape from a speeding train via a handcar; make a failed attempt to steal a chicken; and end up on a runaway boxcar. Late at night, the mice come out and sing and play to the title tune, among others. That is, until the cat arrives, but he's quickly sent packing. This short wasn't officially released, but was instead reworked slightly and released as "Bosko's Dizzy Date".
When the king returns to the castle, he is surprised to find that the queen is in the parlor and won't see anyone. A bee returns home late after a night out having too much honey.
His wife leaves him, but quickly ends up in the clutches of an evil ladybug. The whole hive turns out to fight the ladybug and get her back. A baby hen sees a lot of food on the other side of the fence.
To get to it, he has to scare away a scarecrow. An old man is reading a book by the fire. After he goes to bed various characters from the book come alive. On a cold Christmas Eve, a poor little boy wanders through a snowy village to his "shanty" on the other side of the tracks knowing that Santa Claus will never come to his house.
In happy China, a Mandarin livens up some local music by playing some Pee Wee-style clarinet the American way, and then teams up with a little girl and boy to combat a ferocious dragon.
A jolly old king, bored with all the foolish people in his court, goes off to find a group of children playing who are really young and healthy.
The money soon joins for a chorus, as well as display dolls in the wardrobe department. When Honey shows Bosko a book about the three musketeers he re-imagines the story with himself as the lead. Bosko helps Honey wash dishes and breaks a lot of them. He makes a robot out of junk to help, and it doesn't turn out the way he had wanted. Buddy's boat floats merrily down the river as various musical and dance shows are performed.
While having lunch at the garage, Cookie is kidnapped by a man and Buddy engages in a car chase to rescue her. A little girl falls asleep and dreams she is in Toyland, where she and a toy soldier contend with the Beast from "Beauty and the Beast.
Merchandise in the general store, everything from sardines and potatoes to characters on package labels, comes to life to perform a musical revue. Ceramic figurines come to life after one of them is knocked over and broken by the household cat. Buddy and Cookie's hot air balloon gets thrashed by a violent thunder storm and they ended up landing in a strange town. Buddy gets a new job in a book shop, but spends his work hours daydreaming about leading the Foreign Legion and fighting Amazons.
Oswald the Rabbit gathers some of the greatest entertainers of the age to cure Old King Cole of the blues. Buddy is tasked with a secret investigation into the mistreatment of inmates at the Sing Song Prison.
A cartoonist falls victim to the very villains he has drawn. It's up to Beans the Cat to save the day. Kitchen and household items come to life. The Dutch boy and girl are figures on a plate, and their budding love affair is threatened by a dastardly villain.
Uncle Beans and the kids are off to visit a haunted ship trapped in the ice, hoping to find pirate treasure. Momma cat is teaching her kittens to catch mice. Meanwhile, across the basement, Momma mouse is teaching her little ones how to avoid cats. A bellhop in the best hotel of a small town dreams about working at a first class hotel in New York City. Emily, whose boyfriend rooster is just about to propose marriage to her when she gets infatuated with a passing rooster motorist, the radio crooner Mr.
A characterization of Bing Crosby as a fly, who comes down to woo all the other insects with his singing talent, and aerial skills. While Porky and some of his fellow sailors are on shore leave in a bar a pirate captain forces them to join his crew. A spoof of Al Jolson's "The Jazz Singer," a strict piano teaching owl is cursed with a son who "loves to singa," but only jazz. A black man sneaks out of church and tries to steal a chicken, but gets a taste of hell when he's accidentally knocked unconscious.
Porky is raising chickens, ducks, and geese. Many birds have fallen victim to the hawk, Porky's going to do everything he can to fight back.
Hamhock finds herself the object of unwanted attention following an article in the paper about her inheritance. Big-city baseball team with a cocky chicken pitcher named Dizzy Dan plays an exhibition baseball game in Hickville. Cupid and a Devil are having fun on St.
Valentine's Day with arranging and destroying love affairs. Porky runs a game refuge. Despite the abundant signs to the contrary, Jean-Baptiste the trapper sets numerous traps. Porky rescues the animals from the traps.
Jean-Baptiste tracks him down and beats him up. The animals come to Porky's rescue. A mistreated wife comes home to her husband, who treats her poorly, only to find that he's left her for another woman. Piggy is always hungry, thinking of food, eating, and stealing food when he can. And no matter how much he eats, he never fills up in the least bit. At race day, Porky finds himself up against famous stars such as Laurel and Hardy, and Charlie Chaplin.
A deliveryman who drives an ice truck is wooed by a homely spinster bird who hopes to entice him with her culinary talents. When his grandchildren fight over a coin for ice cream, J. Field Mouse tells them the story of a mouse whose greed and dishonesty became his undoing. New duck hunter Porky is constantly taunted by a very early version of Daffy, and all the other ducks. The Lord sees that the stock value of "Pair-o-dice" is dropping on the exchange so he dispatches a slow-witted and slow-talking angel to sinful Harlem to recruit new customers.
Porky Pig and Dirty Digg, two building contractors, are in a war for the deal to build the town hall. Afraid of being late for work again Porky and Gabby try to sleep well during the night.
But it doesn't work out so well for them. A baby parrot wishes to be a sailor like his drunk father; and tries to follow an adventure at sea. Porky, Petunia, and their brothers Peter, Patrick, Percy, and Portus, are set to inherit a fortune from their rich uncle.
However the kindly Lawyer Goodwill, who is next in line for the fortune, drinks a bottle of Jekyll and Hyde juice and turns into a monster bent on killing Porky and his siblings. The number one public enemy is on the loose, and he just so happens to look like Porky.
He disguises himself to look like Porky to rob a bank. A program for radio KUKU set in the woods, mostly starring birds as caricatures of celebrities of the day. While their mother hen is away, a group of young chicks must defend themselves from a weasel that is planning to have them for dinner. Porky travels over to the darkest Africa in Wackyland in search for the last existing Dodo - but he encounters strange and surrealistic creatures upon his discovery.
Egghead cast as Captain John Smith and explorers are set out to explore the new world - but are trapped by indians and only to be saved by Pocahontas. A little cat must take his sick father's place as nightwatchman, but is bullied by a tough mouse and his gang, leaving the rest of the mice free to eat all the food and stage a musical floor show.
Daffy Duck has been fired as a doctor's assistant and is desperate to find a patient to cure - ill or healthy. Sniffles the mouse goes to a drugstore and gets drunk on a cold remedy, then befriends an electric razor and gets it drunk as well. Porky Pig lives in the North Pole living a happy life with polar bears - that is until his polar bear friends are in peril by a fur trapper.
General Daffy Duck's fort is plagued by Indian raids. After struggling to awaken Porky Pig for his turn at guard duty, Daffy is terrified by an onslaught of Indians. The day seems lost, until Daffy inadvertently swallows a box of bullets Porky falls asleep after refusing to say the Pledge of Allegiance. Uncle Sam comes to him in his dreams and explains to him what the pledge means, and how it honors those who gave their life for the nation.
Porky sees the error of his ways. Daffy's a new father, but ends up getting drunk. One of his ducklings is captured by an eagle, and its up to him to save the day. Hunter John Sourpuss is disgusted of the soaring meat prices--and so he goes to hunt himself a rabbit. Porky is an owner of his own hotel, and has a visitor who wants only peace and quiet during his stay.
There has been no rain in the Indian village for ages; until an Indian boy has luck with weather pills. Petunia and Porky are from two different households at war with each other. They decide to declare peace with their families, however it doesn't last.
Porky Pig is on his way to the store to pick up some groceries for his mother when he walks by a sign saying that the local movie theater is having a "kids admitted free" day. The excited Porky rushes in and views a series of spoofs of newsreels, movie trailers, feature films, and even the Lone Ranger!
While pursuing a little dog who's wandered into an amusement park at night, the park's watchdog accidentally switches on the power to all the rides and attractions, bewildering the pair of canines. A young blackbird is in dire need to eat a worm, and so wakes up early in the morning, but only to be outwitted by the worm.
Sniffles the mouse is in the country for a restful vacation, but the woodland creatures keep him awake and eventually frighten him into scurrying back to the city. Daffy Duck convinces Porky Pig to quit the cartoon biz and try his luck in the features.
Porky's adventures begin when he tries to enter the studio. Features live-action segments with producer Leon Schlesinger as himself and studio writer Michael Maltese uncredited, with his voice dubbed by Mel Blanc as a studio guard.
Studio directors Bob Clampett and Chuck Jones also have brief cameos. Tom's father mistakenly believes that the little bird who's just rescued his tiny son from drowning in the dishwater is attacking the boy and drives it away. Tom sets off to find the bird and gets lost in a fierce snowstorm. The first "true" appearance of Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd.
While hunting rabbits, Elmer Fudd comes across Bugs Bunny who tricks and harasses the hunter. Porky checks into a hospital with a tummyache; he has the bad luck to encounter a patient posing a "Dr.
Chilled-Air" who is a bit too eager to operate. Porky decides to go fishing the next day and tells his cat. The cat sleeps fitfully. The next day, while they are fishing, the cat gets into a battle with a flying fish who behaves rather like Daffy Duck. Porky is selling hot peppers in the streets; he uses these to his advantage when he is confronted by an angry bull. Elmer purchases a domestic rabbit, who happens to be Bugs Bunny.
Bugs, unimpressed with the lifestyle as a pet, decides to teach Elmer a lesson. A couple is having a picnic in a peaceful forest. Red ants are on one side and black ants on the other. Both sides declare to declare war over the couples picnic basket. Bugs is sure that he'll win, because Cecil is a turtle, but Cecil has some tricks up his sleeves, unbeknownst to Bugs.
Porkys neighbor, a lazy bear, doesn't do any work on his farm all summer long. When winter comes they have no food. He then decides to tell his false side of the story, portraying Little Red Riding Hood and Grandma to be scheming to make a coat out of him. A series of spot gags about farm life. Running gag: why are all the little piggies watching the clock so intently?
A satirical night of Hollywood where a group of celebrities gather at Ciro's nightclub for dinner and dancing. While reading about an indian named Hiawatha in a book, Bugs soon learns that Hiawatha is real, and is trying to cook him for dinner as rabbit stew. Porky the jockey is getting his prize entry ready for the big steeplechase, but an overambitious and ever-confident, somewhat bumbling nag is determined to convince Porky to ride him in the race.
Porky introduces a newsreel of wartime spot gags, including a spoof of the RKO Pictures logo, and caricatures of Jack Benny and Rochester. Bugs' peace and quiet is interrupted when Willoughby, a dog, digs Bugs out of his rabbit hole.
Willoughby takes an immediate disliking to Bugs, and he starts to chase him into a lake. A cat shares her story on Porky Pig's radio program, of how her kitten was kidnapped by a group of gangster mice. Another dumb hunter tries to have Bugs as his dinner. It's a good thing that Bugs knows how to negotiate with hunters, as this certain hunter is a sucker for negotiations.
A followup to Porky's Ant. Porky discovers the trained African pigmy ant, inside a local theatre. Elmer expects to find rest and relaxation at Jellostone National Park, but he mistakenly sets camp in the neighborhood of Bugs' rabbit hole, and Bugs and a neighboring bear don't have much leisure in mind.
A dog named Rover explains to a black, down-on-his-luck shaggy dog named Andy how he got his master. He went into a hotel room and bothered someone taking a bath--Porky Pig. Porky doesn't want Rover as a pet, no matter how many times Rover tries to make Porky adopt him. A bee demonstrates to a fly how to avoid Porky's flyswatter and eat all the food inside his bakery.
Conrad Cat's attempts to keep the battleship decks swabbed are frustrated by Daffy's tricks, like putting paint in his bucket, and by unexpected appearances of the pint-sized Admiral.
Elmer Fudd is already hunting Bugs when he learns that he will inherit three million dollars from Uncle Louie if he doesn't harm animals, especially rabbits. Daffy Duck refuses to fly south for the winter, which leads him to refuge into a winter shack, trapped by a wolf and a weasel. Bugs arrives in the desert to find Elmer prospecting for gold. Fudd is finally driven to pull his own gold tooth. A farm horse tries to enlist in the army, but despite his virtuoso display of wartime histrionics, he's rejected when he flunks the physical.
Dejected, he wanders into a mock battlefield, which tells him what war is really like. It seems the whole animal kingdom make fun of the lion as a has-been. Anxious to prove them wrong, the lion decides to try and catch a rabbit. Mama Buzzard wants her children to learn to bring back meat for dinner. One buzzardling is shy and has to be kicked out of the nest.
He's told to at least bring back a rabbit. We tour a farm and see how the various animals are preparing for the war, in a series of blackout skits. A young chickenhawk is tired of being treated like a kid, and goes out to claim a chicken of his own. A live-action piano player relates the story of the Moth who, on his way to marry his Honey Bee, falls into the clutches of an amourous black widow spider, who at one point disguises herself as Veronica Lake in an attempt to snare her man, er, bug.
A fox makes an error when he hears that silver foxes are highly prized, not realizing that only the skin is prized, not the fox it's attached to. Daffy Duck, suffering from hiccups, runs into Dr.
The doctor has a potion to help cure his condition. The first color Looney Tunes short most Merrie Melodies shorts had been in color since A cat-about-town fancies himself such an irresistible "hunk" he momentarily resembles Victor Mature. His wooing of a cute kitten gets derailed by a prankster dog using a cat hand puppet to trap him. Babbit and Catstello, take-offs on Bud Abbott and Lou Costello try to catch the little Tweety bird, using everything from stilts to dynamite.

The ensemble characters of "I Haven't Got a Hat", such as Oliver Owl, and twin dogs Ham and Ex, were also given a sampling of shorts, but demand for these characters was far exceeded by Beans and Porky; Beans himself was later phased out due to declining popularity, leaving Porky as the only star of the Schlesinger studio.
Bugs initially starred in the color Merrie Melodies shorts and formally joined the Looney Tunes series with the release of " Buckaroo Bugs " in , which is the final cartoon produced by Leon Schlesinger.
The inspiration for the changeover was Warner's decision to re-release only the color cartoons in the Blue Ribbon Classics series of Merrie Melodies. Schlesinger sold his interest in the cartoon studio to Warner Bros.

In , the Looney Tunes characters made their way into the amusement business when they became the mascots for the two Marriott's Great America theme parks, Gurnee and Santa Clara. After the Gurnee park was sold to Six Flags, they also claimed the rights to use the characters at the other Six Flags parks, which they continue to do presently.
