Owen Hargreaves joined United from Bayern Munich in but his three-year stint at Old Trafford was plagued by injury. However, that didn't stop Hargreaves from becoming an instrumental part of the Red Devils' Champions League success. The former midfielder's contract expired in and he turned down an offer from West Brom. That led the former England international to rivals City where he scored on his debut but only managed one Premier League appearance until his release at the end of the season.

Brian Kidd, a native Mancunian, started out in United's academy before being promoted to the first team in and went on to score 52 goals in appearances. Following the club's relegation in , Kidd joined Arsenal but returned to Manchester two years later, this time for City.

The legendary forward enjoyed a prolific three-year stint at Maine Road with a total of 44 goals in 98 appearances. The former England international continued to switch around Manchester after the end of his career as he was hired as the Red Devils' youth coach in before becoming Ferguson's assistant three years later.

The Old Trafford faithful would be hoping that Manchester United can sort out their defensive issues in the games to come. This would be important if the club is to perform and compete with the other top clubs consistently. The supporters would also be hoping that these players can pull up their socks and start putting favourable results on a regular basis.

But it was the defensive performance from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men that drew the headlines, with United's lack of effort very much in the public eye.
